Sometimes you just need a touch of sheer color to bring your face back to life. When it comes to your base makeup, you can choose a bronzer, highlighter and/or blush to create a warm, glowing complexion. Here are the beauty basics to using these three products like a pro.
1. Use Bronzer to Add a Creamy Touch of Sun
Bronzers are perfect for contouring the face and drawing attraction to your favorite traits. First, choose a bronzer that fits your skin tone. It will generally be two shades darker than your natural skin tone.
Apply the bronzer from the middle of your cheek, under the cheek bones and up towards your ears but not all the way. Unlike blush, try to avoid the apples of your cheeks. Also apply a light layer of bronzer to the top of the forehead and jawline to create warmth. You can also use the bronzer as a subtle eyeshadow to add depth and dimension to the eyes by applying onto the eyelid. Then use your fingers to blend it in.
Where to Apply Bronzer:
- Under cheekbone
- Top of forehead
2. Add Highlighter for a Lively Glow
Highlighter can be used to add dimension and create an illusion of healthy, radiance to the face. Whether accentuating your cheekbones, highlighting the brow bone or drawing attention to the eyes, highlighter is an easy and great multidimensional addition to your makeup bag.
How To Apply Highlighter:
Highlighter can be used to brighten up or accentuate certain features, or you can mix it with your favorite moisturizer to create a subtle glow. Swipe highlighter on areas of the face where sunlight naturally falls such as:
- Bridge of nose
- Brow bone
- Cupid’s Bow above the upper lip
- Center of Forehead
3. Create a Healthy Pinch of Flush
Blush should always be applied last to add the finishing touches to your look. When using blush, it is important to find the right color match to your skin tone, as not all blushes look right with every complexion. For a quick tip, darker complexions should go with a lighter shade, and lighter complexions should go with a darker shade.
How to Apply Blush:
Apply blush on the apples of cheeks and blend up and outwards to add a beautiful flush of color to your complexion. The easiest way to see where you should apply blush is by smiling and applying where the cheeks round above the cheekbone. Don’t apply under the cheekbone -- leave that for bronzers. You can also use a cream blush as a lip tint if the product is hydrating and creamy enough.
